Celebrating small victories

small-victoriesThe day after The Denver Post published its front page story celebrating the ‘coming of age’ of marijuana, and the day after we published our Stoking the fire rebuke of the newspaper’s disregard for journalistic integrity, The Post’s editorial board published “Full story on marijuana in Colorado is still being written.” And yes, we made sure that The Denver Post received a copy of our comments before they published their editorial.

The editorial was a more well-balanced, sobering look at marijuana’s impact in Colorado, for which we are thankful.  It highlighted two of the key points raised in our rebuke: addiction and road safety.

Was The Denver Post editorial an apology in response to our outrage that was shared and voiced by so many across the state?  It’s conceivable that the timing, the appearance of an adult voice on the paper, and the acknowledgment of our published concerns were a mere coincidence.  We may never know for sure.

We thank each of you who shared our indignation and especially those who forwarded our comments to your friends and other contacts.  Who knows?  You might have made the difference.
